Prospective student - MaryL, Jorja, Jouan

As the young boy gripped tenuously on the unstable rock, it suddenly fell and he was left dangling on the ledge of a mountain. As quickly as he could he reacted and struggled to climb out of the situation he was in. Relieved and exhausted he was glad that he had reached his destination. At long last he had finally reached the dojo and thought to himself “My dream of becoming a kung fu master is finally here”. I hope the sensei accepts me”, hopes the boy.

Anxious and curious he knocked on the dojo door with no idea on what to expect. Suddenly the huge door opened and standing in front of the boy was the sensei. To show respect the young boy bowed, but the sensei pointed directly to his right and slammed the door. The young boy was confused and he thought to himself “What a waste of time”.

By not giving up and losing faith the young boy thought he had to prove himself worthy by meditating all day and night til the morning sunrise. Still deep in meditation, the boy did not realize that the Sensei was standing in front of him. The boy opened one lazy eye and once again the Sensei pointed to his right and slammed the door.

The hopeless boy dropped his head in sadness and walks away. Suddenly he had changed his emotions, from depressed to furious. He stormed back to the dojo and karate kicked the enormous door down. The sensei came out again. “I challenge you to a karate battle!” demanded the boy. The sensei pointed in frustration to his right. Turning his head the boy notice the sign that the sensei had been pointing at. “PLEASE USE THE SIDE ENTRANCE!” said the sign. Embarrassed and feeling dumb the boy curled his arms up like a girl and walked onwards.

The hut

It was a cold, dark, gloomy night. I stumbled upon an abandoned hut deep in the heart of the forest. I was just about to enter the hut when suddenly I heard leaves rustling. I told myself it was just the strong wind blowing the autumn leaves around. But then I saw a dark shadow from the corner of my eye. I ran in the spooky hut, and hid in the dusty corner.

It became silent.... I tried to contact my parents on my cellphone, but there was no signal. I heard leaves rustling once more, but this time it got louder and louder. Then I saw the shadow at the entry of the hut. I grabbed a large stick next to me and shouted “Stay back! Leave me alone! AHHHHHHHHH!!!”

But as the shadow got closer I started to see the face of the mysterious figure. It was one of the policemen trying to look for “the missing girl who had mysteriously disappeared a week ago!” “It’s ok I’m not going to hurt you. Are you Miss Luna?” The officer asked. “YES! YES I AM!” I ran to him and we went back home. One month later... I am now back at school, living my normal life again! Safe and sound with my two bodyguards. And I NEVER went or even thought about going to that horrible forest ever again.

will.i.am ft justin biber: THAT POWER

Ms.King told us to listen to this song and write down what we thought the lyrics mean.
I think that this song mean’s - never give up, make your dreams a reality and like in the lyrics “I got that power!” Everyone has a chance to make their dream real. So if your chance comes, be sure to take it! I also thought that the song reflects his childhood. Heres the story!

Key?!

Every morning I would take my dog for a walk through the old park outside of town. One day as we walked through the frosty park I noticed a small shimmer of light on the icy ground. First I thought it was just the sun reflecting its light on the frost but as we got closer the light grew brighter. I knelt down to see what it really it was. “A key!?” I yelled, confused. What's this key doing way out here? I thought. “This park has been deserted for years, I wonder who left it here???

Spongebob and Patrick Surfing

Today Miss King told us to do that same writing challenge as yesterday. This time we have to add
action and detail to the Spongebob Squarepants Surf Short #1. Again, Hope you like my story...

One beautiful sunny day down in the deep blue sea, Spongebob and his best friend Patrick, were down at the beautiful Goo lagoon. They were working on their surfing skills.
“WooooW!” Sponge bob screamed as he was tumbled over by the huge waves. Patrick shook his head in disappointment “Oooo.” Light bulb/ Idea! Patrick thought.
Jumping on to his surfboard, he grabbed a bottle of glue from his back pocket and yelled “Apply the sauce!” and he stuck his feet firmly to his board. Once in the water, Patrick entered a huge wave. “I will not be separated from this surfboard” He told himself.
At the end of the barrel there was a big, sharp rock! Spotting the rock, Patrick panicked “Rock! Separate! Separate!” he screamed in horror. SPLIT! He separated from his skeleton! The skeleton landed on the soft white sand as his skin floated into shore. “I like your sandals,” marveled Patrick’s skeleton. Patrick’s flat skin with the piece of the surfboard still stuck on each foot replied “Thanks we’re inseparable.”

Dory and Marlin - Just Keep Swimming

Today Miss King gave us a writing challenge. We had to write about Finding Nemo. The challenge is to add action and detail to the speech. Which is when Dory singing Just Keep swimming. Hope you like my story...
Down in the deep blue sea at the edge of a sea cliff, depressed Marlin lay on a rock. He was worried about his son Nemo who had been caught by divers. Swimming up to him, Dory questioned Marlin happily, “Hey Mr Grumpy Gills When life gets you down, you know what you gotta do?” Marlin sadly mumble "I don’t want to know what you gotta do.” “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming, swimming What do we do? We swim swim,” Dory sang cheerfully, while pulling Marlin by the fin down the sea cliff. Marlin whispered, “Dory, No singing.” Dory just ignored him and just kept singing “I love to swim. When you want to swim.” Suddenly, “See I'm gonna get stuck now with that song now it’s in my head!” Marlin yelled in anger! Dory stopped singing immediately. “Sorry.” she replied.

Wacky Surfing Dog! (story)

“Good morning (woof woof!)” I barked at my master. I am a dog and my name is Rockie. “Hey buddie.” My master replied getting up from bed. “Woof” I barked. “Lets have some breakfast.” He said. So we went down stairs. As a dog you may know we like to howl at the mailman and get the mail, I do that every morning. As I eat my breakfast my master reads the newspaper.

“Hey Rockie, do you want to join the wacky dog SURFING competition this year?!” my master asked me. “Woof! (NO!) ” I answered him. But he doesn't understand! So he believed what he wanted, which is “yes please!” but I said the total opposite. Our entry was the last one to be accepted because the competition was on the next day! So I had no time to practice, I have never surfed my entire life! I was terrified! “Don’t worry Rockie, It’s just like skateboarding and swimming but combined!” my master said in confidence. Knowing that I felt a bit better because I know how to skateboard, not to brag I’m pretty good at it and I LOVE swimming!

The next day, I was in my safety gear and my wacky lion costume ready to surf! I decided to wear my lion costume to the competition, after all it is a WACKY dog surfing competition. Getting to the beach where the big surfing competition was held, I was still terrified. I saw a lot of other dogs of all shape and sizes and all sorts of WACKY costumes. I guess it’s not just me wearing a WACKY/stupid costume, I thought. We got to the starting line, my master strapped me onto the the board, “You can do this, just try not to fall off!” he said. “READY... SET... GO!!!” And off we went. At first I was wobbly but then I remember my skateboarding skills. Suddenly I was balanced and calm, I wanted to stay like that for the rest of the time.

Balancing on my glittering blue, I past all of the other dogs that were in front of me! I thought it was smooth sailing from there but cats was I wrong! It just got harder and harder as the weather got worse. Waves tumbled most of the other dogs behind me. On top of my out balanced board, I gripped on tightly, so not to fall off. There were many rocks poking out of the sea unexpectedly. Carefully passing many obstacles the sea has given me, I saw my saviour from all this madness, the finish line! “You can do this, fight FIGHT!” I motivated myself. In the end I was floating past the finish line. I was #1!!! “You did it Rockie; you're the winner!” Yelled my master. “WOOF WOOF WOOF!!!!!!” I howled proudly. THE END

Easter Eggs

Easter Eggs are treats for kids on Easter. But when you think about it How do Easter eggs relate to the Easter story? Well I have been reading some Easter stories for kids and also Easter stories for bigger people. But really how the heck do the Easter stories have anything to do with Easter eggs?

Personally, I believe the catholic version of the Easter story. From my readings I have found out that Easter eggs actually symbolize A new day or rebirth and new life. Also most Easter eggs are hollow because of the tomb that Jesus was buried in. Now chocolate eggs are used for most Easter activities. Such as the traditional Easter egg hunt!

Mysterious Black Hole (part 2)

If you had a mysteriously magical black hole what would you do with it? Would you be greedy?
Would you share it? There’s no telling what you could do. Until you do it. I have experienced this before. Hi I’m Jewel, and I am going to tell you all about how I got fired from work because of my temptation from a little piece of paper.

I’m now currently living in with my sister and her son because I am broke...no money, no job and nowhere else to go. I am poorer than you can imagine. Now I am relying on my sister to fill all of my needs for me. Until of course she gets sick of me and kicks me out of the house. How did I end up like this you ask, well it was like this...

I was just at the park with my niece, minding my own business (I was doing a favor for my sister.) Then out of the blues, a piece paper landed on my face. I screamed non stop until it fell on the ground. My niece was staring at me like I was crazy then just kept playing. I picked it up from the middle of the paper and my hand went straight through the black hole! Which was illustrated on the paper. Before I could investigate, my niece asked “Auntie I’m bored can we go home now?” “Sure,” I answered back.

“Hi Mummy,” said Analise.(Analise is my niece's name and Joey is my sister.) Joey answered back, “Hi honey”. “Thanks for taking her to the park Jewel, you were a big help,” Joey thanked me. I said back, “Huh ohh it was nothing, I’d better be going home now.” “Ohh ok,” she said.

As soon as I got home I shut all the curtains, windows and doors. I locked myself up in my room to investigated the piece of paper. I put my hand through the black hole again, just to be sure I wasn't seeing things. But I’m sure I was. It happened again, my hand went straight through. Now I was terrified and curious! So I just kept experimenting with it for a few more days and found out it’s true power.

It can go through things! For example: I brang it to work one day to test it out. I used it on the vending machine. While no one was looking I got a picnic bar out for free using the black hole. I got more and more tempted by it. Before I knew it, I stole heaps of things from, I don’t even know where!

One day I did something that cost me my job, my whole life! I was super obsessed that time I didn’t know what I was doing, I just did it. It was way over the top, it was sky high crazy. Did I tell you that I worked at a jewelry store. Can you guess what I did? That’s right I stole all the jewelry in the store! Alarms went off, police came. I was in jail for three years. I never saw the Black Hole again. And I never want to.

Well that’s my story. I know it’s tragic but it had a good ending, sort of. The question still remains, what would you do?

Christchurch and Kaikoura

I'm back! From where you ask. My holiday of course. My family and I went to the airport after school because we were going to Christchurch! But only for the weekend. Do you want to here about my holiday? OK.

After a long hot, painful day at school. I came home hoping to have a nice rest and maybe even have a nap. But that did not happen. I had to dig thought my all of my clothes and pack the in the backpack. Because we had to catch a plane to Christchurch. For a small holiday. It was perfect and bad timing. Because I really need a holiday and I also need a rest. And as you now air planes are not the best place to rest.

When we finally got out of the plane we rented a car. Just  when we thought the long boring trip was over... we still had to drive all the to Kaikoura (Two hours away from Christchurch). To make it clear It is like 11:30 at NIGHT!!!

It was harder for my dad than me because he was the one driving. While the rest of us are have an uncomfortable sleep. Later that night... we finally reached the house we were going to stay in. I was way to tired to change into my PJ's. So I just fell strait onto my bed and slept. In the morning I woke up well rested as you can see in the photo!
THE END.

In the two teams there are taggers and runners rescuers. But if you do get tagged you must sit down and wait for someone in your team to rescue you.Remember this game is all about honesty. So if you get tagged then just sit down. If you do manage to get the flag back to your side then your team wins!

“Lollipop Moment”

What is a “Lollipop Moment”?

A time when you do something nice to a person and it helps them. Whether it’s a big thing or small. What is the main message behind this story?

What is the main message behind this story?

Make a difference to the world, help out someone in need. No matter how small the act that you did.

How could you help create “Lollipop Moments” in your family or school?

Making Lollipop Moments are as simple as throwing your rudish in the bin.
This is a video called “Lollipop Moments” it is a very interesting. Well at least I think so. The star or the guy telling the story is Drew Dudley. He made a persons life completely change by doing a very small act of kindness. Witch I think is so cool.

Lollipop Moments are most of the time unxpected. They can happen any time and at any place. Sometimes you don’t even know you're having a “Lollipop Moment”. A “Lollipop Moment” can be a small thing or a big thing. It’s as easy as helping a friend in need. Lollipop Moments is basically helping out. As Mr. Dudley said “Everything you do for your self, you do for others around you. Your actions, no matter how small, effects others.”
